The application process

Check out our five-stage application process that is focused on accommodations and fairness!

  • To begin the application process, you can simply fill in our application form that typically takes less than 10 minutes to complete. You will be able to find this form on EngSoc Breezy (https://breezy.engsoc.queensu.ca/), or through our website/Notion packages.

Our website and Notion packages (usually released at the same time as our application forms) contain a lot of useful information regarding what we are looking for. The process can be quite competitive and we cannot guarantee interviews for all applicants.

Note that you do not need experience to apply! We only collect resumes as tiebreakers and to use them as questions at the interviews.

  • Once selected to proceed to the next round, you will interview with 3 or more executive members that are related to your application. This typically occurs within a week of the application deadline.

The interviews are typically 15 minutes in length and contain 5 to 6 questions. Unless there is a lack of applicants, the interview process for Technical Applicants (applicants applying for a position under Technical Subsystems) would involve a group assignment instead. In the past, this meant a technical case study that is to be completed within an hour on the day of the group interviews, and presented to the executive team within limited time.

  • This is a special step that occurs when there are too many applicants past step 2, or if too many tiebreakers are required to complete recruitment. In this case, a second round interview stage would be initiated to find out more about the applicants!

This stage usually includes interviews following the same format as the first one (Technical Applicants would also do an interview instead), but may involve questions that are more specific and experience-based.

  • Congratulations! If you made it to this stage, that means an offer has been made to accept you into the team! In some instances, you may get deferred or referred to another position, which would be determined using your application form and interview questions.

If you choose to accept the offer (we hope you do!!), then there will be an information form to fill in. This is so we can collect information on you for competitions and management, as well as to see what your preferences are! At the same time, you will be able to join our Slack server and get involved with programs such as Professional Development, Workshops, and other benefits!

  • Welcome to Queen’s Hyperloop! Get ready to update your LinkedIn and resume because we are going to send you through some training and get you started on a sub-team.

Depending on which branch and sub-team you are part of, the manager or director may offer some unique training or resources beyond the general ones. You will also get to know our tech and resources better, which also include our alum network and corporate partners. Lastly, it’s time to get social and meet other members, both new and old!

Now that you are officially part of the team, it could be a good idea to spam memes in our #random channel, post some of the hottest news around the world, or better yet - sit back as we do the same so you can expand your knowledge in Hyperloop design and more.
