End of Season Address: Fakid Hossain

The Queen’s Hyperloop Design Team has always been a constant presence in my post-secondary career since year one. I’ve seen the team’s lows and its highs, and all the trials and tribulations it had to go through to be in the special position it is in today. Our newest members may not fully realize this, but everything you put into this year’s team has not been unnoticed and was the reason we had our most successful year yet. To say it was a complete honor and privilege to even be a part of the team is a massive understatement. The amount I’ve learned from being on this year’s team trump’s anything I’ve learned in the past three years of my degree, and I hope that at the very least, everyone this year was able to feel even a small fraction of the pride I felt everyday leading this team.

This was the first year QHDT qualified to come down to SpaceX for the Hyperloop Pod competition. This was also the farthest the team has ever gone in the competition −but that doesn’t mean we were satisfied. I know everyone returning to the team next year are now extremely driven by what they saw at SpaceX and genuinely believe they can be among the best there. As I pass my position along to next year’s Captains, I have 100% confidence that they will continue to grow the team and represent both Queen’s and Canada with pride.

And now as I end my last contribution to the team, I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone for making QHDT as enjoyable as it was for the past year. To everyone on the team who put countless hours into our reports and our pod, to everyone that sacrificed their free time and sleep to make this team a reality, and to everyone that made it down to L.A. for the competition, this is a thank you to all of you.

To future QHDT members, embrace the adversity you’ll face and enjoy the friendships you’ll make. Opportunities like these don’t come often, to be a part of something bigger than yourself, so have fun with it.
